Looks like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! some pics of Toyota's rare 222D Group B racecar, based on the AW11 MR2.

Just some background: Toyota Team Europe built three of these cars to compete in Group B as well as other rally series. There were two black cars and one white. Two were AWD, one was RWD. Some had longitudinal mounted engines, some had transverse. Most used the same twin cam twin spark plug turbo engine as the RWD rally Celica, making in excess of 600 horsepower. Today, Toyota still has possession of one black and one white car. The second black car has been lost.

Also, I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the little lever by the shifter is for an adjustable torque split for the center diff like the Ford RS200 had.

EDIT: Since this post is getting more attention than I was expecting, here's a video of the car in action at Goodwood (I think?) a few years back.

Who lost it? I can see how, considering the car looks like it is only two feet long!

I feel tempted to find an old MR2 and recreate a 222B now.

Basically the passenger compartment is the only thing remotely similar. Everything in front of the front firewall and everything behind the seats is completely different. Also tube framed I believe.

Hmmm, I wonder how much tubing I'd need...

If you pull it off please let me know so I can come see, since I'll likely never see one of these in real life.

Holy hot cup of coffee! I've never seen this. Another reason to be bummed out about Gruppe B's demise.

As much as I love pop-up headlights, the encased lights on these things are awesome. There is just something about how they conform to the basic shape of the car but manage to stand out.

And it looks like close to standard shifter cables. Also the little circle vents in the middle are on the outside ends of the stock dash.

Per 0:24 in the video, this is the 2-little turbo 4, is it not?

It is. A very rough predecessor to the 3S-GTE found in Celica AllTrac/GTFour and later the SW20 MR2 Turbo.

WHY ARE THEY DRIVING IT IN THE HALLWAY??

Is that what happens at whatever Toyota madhouse this is? I have never wanted to be indoors so badly.

It's at Toyota Motorsport GmbH in Europe. Formerly known at "Toyota Team Europe", they are the ones responsible for basically every Toyota race car ever.

From chatting to the driver of the 222D that Toyota brought to Goodwood there were 11 of these made and Toyota ordered them all bar the white one, which current resides in Japan, to be dismantled.

TTE thought sod that and kept 2 black ones, from what I understand both are still intact. :-)

I found this pic of them on the net a few years ago, I'm not sure how old it is though.

Kinja'd!!!

Me at Goodwood, grin says it all.

That is absolutely incredible. From what I understand there were multiple engines/engine positions as well between the chassis. Some were transverse, some weren't, some used the 2.0, others used different engines.

Not too sure about the different engine sizes, but yeah they did have both longitudinal and transverse orientations. No idea how they squeezed the longitudinal one in with the 4wd transmission, I'd love to see that one. :-D

These are the pics I have of the car:
